If you’re on the lookout for art that speaks to the soul, look no further than GCAMWIL, otherwise known as Garett “GCAMWIL” Campbell-Wilson. Based in Vancouver, British Columbia, GCAMWIL is a true visionary and creative mastermind who has captivated audiences with his fresh, unique approach to art.
GCAMWIL’s journey began at just five years old, when he first discovered his love for experiential art. Since then, he has honed his craft through private apprenticeships and formal training at the Vancouver-based art academy, Arts Umbrella: School of Art, Design, Dance, Theatre, Music & Film.
In 2003, GCAMWIL’s talent earned him a $28,000 scholarship to attend Lesley University College of Art + Design in Boston, Massachusetts, where he graduated with a BFA in Visual Communications with the dean’s honors. It was here that he discovered the power of variety in his creative process and the importance of collaboration with creatives in alternative disciplines.
Today, GCAMWIL’s multidisciplinary approach to art incorporates mediums such as drawing, painting, sculpture, design, digital, and film. His pieces are conversation starters that invite viewers to share their perspectives and engage in meaningful dialogue. Drawing inspiration from nature, observation, and all the senses, GCAMWIL believes that the connection of mind, body, and spirit is essential to his creative process.
In 2007, GCAMWIL established GCAMWIL STUDIO, which has since created original works of art, design, and sculpture for residential and corporate clients, galleries, and museums. He has even been commissioned by big-name brands such as Starbucks and Absolut Vodka.
But GCAMWIL’s passion for arts education doesn’t stop there. In 2012, he founded the GCAMWIL Art Academy, where he privately teaches students of all ages in courses such as Drawing from Observation, Human Anatomy, Perspective Drawing, Mixed-media Painting, Landscape Painting, and Experimental Video.
In 2014, GCAMWIL co-founded Cerebrum Marketing Group, bringing his creative and analytical skill set to the advertising and marketing industry. His unconventional approach to digital marketing strategies has attracted clients who are looking to “think outside the box.”
GCAMWIL’s works have been exhibited all over the world, including at the Museum of Vancouver and the Royal Ontario Museum. He continues to push the boundaries of what’s possible with his art and is a true inspiration to all who come into contact with him.
